PTA Issues Cyber Alert Against Intel Products

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a Cyber Alert highlighting multiple vulnerabilities discovered in various Intel products.

These vulnerabilities impact a wide range of Intel software and hardware, including Intel GPA Software, Intel GPA Framework Software, Intel Server Products UEFI Firmware, and Intel Server Board Onboard Video Driver Software. PTA warns that these flaws could allow locally authenticated attackers to gain elevated privileges or launch denial of service (DoS) attacks.

The vulnerabilities stem from issues such as incorrect default permissions, uncontrolled search paths, and improper input validation. Classified as high-risk, they have been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) such as CVE-2023-24460, CVE-2024-21788, and CVE-2023-41961.

PTA has advised organizations to implement several precautionary measures, including enforcing the principle of least privilege, monitoring unusual activity, limiting access to affected Intel products, and employing multi-factor authentication (MFA). Regular security audits and user education on privilege escalation attacks are also emphasized.

Additionally, the advisory recommends deploying Host Intrusion Detection Systems (HIDS) to monitor critical files and directories for unauthorized changes. Suspicious activity should be reported to PTA via its CERT Portal or email for further action.
